The Wait

I lay there waiting for it.
But I wasn’t scared.
The ceiling above me
makes faces.
Silly faces.
Happy faces.
Bad thoughts leave my mind
and I only think
about good things.
Mom’s cooking… mmm
Cuddling with a pet.
Hugging someone.
About interesting things.
The sun.
The intensity in an eagle’s eye.
Smiles.
I think about my family.
And thank God I grew up with them.
I think about best friends.
I said sorry for the things I
could have done better.
The faces start to fade.
Blackness is closing in.
I can feel it.
The wait is over.
